We have finished our units! YEAH! We took our geometry unit assessment last week. Today we are completing the end of year benchmark assessment.
In the coming instructional days we will be re-visiting some concepts from earlier in the year that will be helpful for second grade:
1. Addition and Subtraction story problems (plan, solve, explain our thinking)
2. Time
3. +10/-10 from a number mentally
We are also learning to identify, count, and add coins. This is a skill second grade teachers request we introduce so they have some foundation next year. This happens to fit in well with out Social Studies unit of economics so the two subjects meld nicely and students can see a real world application of the skills!
If time allows, there are some other "Step Up to Second Grade" lessons which address these skills:
-Even/Odd Numbers
-Using arrays to find totals
-Adding 2-digit numbers
-Subtracting 1-digit numbers from 2-digit numbers
-Tell time to the 5 minutes
-Place value using hundreds, tens, ones
Look for some summer math tips for home before the school year is out!
